RE: 911

on 9/11/2001?
Still in the Navy back then.. the evening before I just flew back from Keflavik Iceland from a sea deployment. I reported back into my shore-based command that morning only to witness the events that occured from that day via radio/television. I checked the morning muster report to make sure all our folks made it in that day that were on deployment with me. I had about 10 Sailor with me on that trip and we were all mixed up on different flights. They were all accounted for thank God.

Scissor (stabilizer) jack parts

Welp.. I've lost the little clip that that allows me to crank up the stabilizer. This clip fits into a hole on the threaded rod. Does anyone know where I can get parts for the stabilizers. My local RV parts supplier doesn't have the parts and hinted that I may have to buy a whole new stabilizer. Camping World does not carry parts either. Anyone have a source for parts?

RE: Things left on the highway

Things lost while on the road:
- One plastic backyard lawn chair on the James River Bridge in Virginia (very embarassing).
- One of four oak kitchen chairs (not cheap). They were each all wrapped in a plastic kind of bag and it kind of parachuted out the truck..... then.. because it was somewhat attached to a tie strap...got caught up listening to the radio......and dragged for about a mile down the road where a good chunk of wood was road sanded down. It's still in the workshop as a garage chaIr. (got the wife lecture on that one).
No more chairs in the truck.

RE: Up size from 150 to 2500 TV ?

I used to have a 2003 F150 and now use a 2006 F250. The 3/4 ton is a far more stable and controllable vehicle when towing a TT. Good luck

RE: Things Manufactures do that make you go HUH?

This one is just the opposite if you can believe it. Wife and I get the new TT this year and notice that the Skylight over the bath has two curved cracks in the skylight. Dang, I hoped I would get away with any major problem and I was bummed. Called up the dealer I bought it from to arrange the warranty work and they said, "no problem Mr. D, fax us an estimate and we'll take care of it with Forest River for you too." I break out the ladder and go up to take some photos "just in case" before I hook up and travel out to get an estimate. Upon examining the skylight, I see that the person who calked the skylight was a little messy and what looked like cracks in the skylight was only stringy residue from the calk job. I felt much better after a little cleaning.

RE: HEY we need a sticky for our TT pics!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OK... here's our recent "new" TT.. It took us a long time to get here after years of used PUP's and TT's. I'll make sure they are no bigger than 640x480 as per the rules here.

RE: Jumping into 2nd gear while towing with F150 5.4

Yep, I agree. Those RPM's are normal at that gear for that engine. Your rear gears will have an impact also. At steep grades I am at about 2800 RPM in 2nd gear doing about 50mph. I'm similar to your rig but I believe I have an extra gear set (5 speed auto vs probably your 4 speed auto). I pull a 7500 pound 28 footer. higher rpm's will help keep your transmission cooler too.

RE: Camping Myth Proven

That's why you get one of these propane guages from Camping World (and other places). Only $17.99 for members. I'll gladly pay the 18 bucks instead of a cold propane-less night in the camper.

RE: Does air conditioner use propane?

Most RV air conditioner units utilze AC power only. I don't know of any AC units that utilize propane to cool the air. However, RV refrigerators can be configured to utilize AC power, DC power (battery), and/or Propane . The blower fan and compressor on the air conditioning units draws to much power and is usually a shore power only type unit

RE: towing with a f-150

It is best to refer your truck to the the Ford Truck Towing Guide that you should be able to find online with any search engine. If you tell us the year, engine, body style(Extended cab, longbed), and the rear differential gear ration, some of the members here may be able to tell you from their experiences. Some of this information should also be listed on a name plate or decal inside the driver side door jamb on most Ford Trucks. Also, the weight of the trailer can be found in the same fashion also. Good Luck

RE: requesting opinions of the wildwood T27BHSS

We just bought a Wildwood 26TBSS LE which is very similar to the model you are considering. I have had some minor trim issues and a faulty low point drain cap that were easy to remedy without much fuss (read the "Do we all stress about our campers" thread). The major difference between the LE and LA models is that the LE uses the aluminum casing versus the LA with the fiberglass. I believe the frame is more beefier on the LA models also. I've only had the unit a few weeks but I have no major issues. It tows very easily with my F250SD and a equalizer hitch. Good Luck!

RE: Do we all stress about our campers?

Wampus exsplain to me how you use you low drains to winterize other than draining,as my other two trailers did not have these drains, and my new one does.
SDM, I'm not a pro at it but if you elect to blow out the lines with air, the low point drains help greatly in removing the excess water. If you use the RV antifreeze, like I do, I just bleed clear water from the low points until I see antifreeze come out. Usually there's some water remaining in the last few inches of the low point drain lines after you pump in the antifreeze and this just makes the process a little easier and quicker.

RE: Do we all stress about our campers?

Well... stress is greatly relieved. I completed the low point drain end cap replacement with actual valves this weekend. I'm not concerned about using the hot water attachment for outside use like previously posted here. I will really only use it when purging the lines or winterizing. There... I feel all better now. Here's my first attempt at posting pics of my work:

RE: Do we all stress about our campers?

Thanks all for the great advice... you are right about being concerned about every little noise and creak the trailer makes. My ears were ultra-sensitive during the trip home. After a discussion with the local RV repair service near my house, I came to a decision and bought two cut-off valves to replace the end caps on the hot/cold water low point drains..this will also help out when it comes time to winterize. Also broke out the teflon tape and will make the repairs this weekend. See??? I feel much better now that I've talked to everyone about it. Much cheaper than a psychiatrist.
Camping Again in two weeks... near Williamsburg VA..
